The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Correspondent to join our editorial team and oversee our flagship media property, BankInfoSecurity. This role will produce high-impact journalism that informs and influences leaders across finance, security, and regulatory communities. The ideal candidate is a seasoned reporter with deep knowledge of financial cyber risk, fraud, payments, regulatory compliance, and the evolving intersection of finance and cybersecurity.
What You'll Be Doing
Investigative & Enterprise Reporting: Develop and execute in-depth stories and investigative projects on financial security topics, including cyber-enabled fraud, banking/FinTech threats, sanctions evasion, and institutional risk.
News Coverage & Breaking Reporting: Cover breaking events, regulatory developments, enforcement actions, and major incidents affecting financial institutions, payment ecosystems, and digital asset platforms.
Source Development & Interviews: Build and maintain a broad network of contacts across banks, regulators, law enforcement, risk teams, vendors, and the research community; conduct high-quality interviews and vet sources thoroughly.
Cross-Platform Content Production: Produce clear, accurate articles, analysis pieces, FAQs, and explainers for web and newsletters; support multimedia formats such as podcasts, webinars, and video segments.
Collaboration: Work closely with editors, the Global Copy Desk, and design teams to ensure stories meet editorial standards, are edited and fact-checked, and are optimized for audience engagement.
Thought Leadership & Events: Represent ISMG at industry events, panels, and webinars; contribute to special reports, custom content, and editorial projects that drive audience growth and trust.
Continuous Learning: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial systems, cyber threats, regulatory trends, and investigative techniques to inform reporting and beat coverage.
What You Bring to the Table
7+ years of professional journalism or investigative reporting experience, with significant coverage of financial crime, banking, payments, digital assets, or financial cybersecurity.
Demonstrated track record of high-quality, enterprise reporting; bylines in reputable outlets and examples of investigative work preferred.
Strong knowledge of financial systems, regulatory frameworks (e.g., AML/CFT, sanctions), and cyber threat actors targeting the financial sector.
Excellent interviewing, sourcing, and fact-checking skills; ability to cultivate confidential sources and handle sensitive information responsibly.
Skilled at explaining complex technical and regulatory topics clearly for executive audiences; strong command of AP Style and editorial standards.
Comfortable with digital publishing platforms, content management systems (CMS), and basic multimedia production; familiarity with data analysis, FOIA/records requests, or OSINT techniques a plus.
Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize breaking news and long-form projects, and work collaboratively across global teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Finance, Political Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Full professional proficiency in English; additional language skills are advantageous.
